You know me as Sterling Peterson. I have
been working professionally in the body
modification industry since 2002. I started off in
Salt Lake City as a tattoo apprentice at Southern
Thunder Tattoo. Southern Thunder is Utah's third
oldest studio & remains home to some of Utah's
best artists.
Shortly after my tattoo apprenticeship began
there came a need for a professional Body Piercer.
With the technical expertise necessary, this was
right up my alley. I flew to Cleveland, Ohio to
attend a PPIS (pro piercing information systems) introductory seminar offered by the
renowned instructor, Sky Renfro. As part of this seminar I learned the importance of health
& safety, acquiring my blood borne pathogens certificate. This is something I have since
renewed annually. The rest of the course was instruction on proper placement, proper
jewelry with a focus on aftercare.
I came back home ready to apply my new found knowledge & became very successful as a
professional body piercer. Now being involved in the industry as a professional I started
learning of all the possibilities in modifying the body. My never ending path of exploration
thus began.
In 2004 I went to school to learn the art of Permanent Cosmetics. After a good deal of
research I decided to first learn the Softap method, seeing its possibilities of longer lasting
applications & accuracy. I graduated & became both Softap & CPCT certified.
In 2005 I attended an advanced piercing course offered by Sky in the art of Body
Suspension. The Course was instructed by none other than Steve Joyner of CoRE, Erik
Dakota of Lotus & the infamous Allen Falkner.
Also in 2005 I attended a course in the art of Branding. The course is part of the Fakir
Intensives training. Instructed by Seth of Pro-Gress piercing, Neo & Fakir. This course
covered three methods of branding, application & aftercare.
In mid 2005 I left my roots behind in Utah & started to explore. I now find myself in
Portland, Oregon and am continuing my career here as a professional body modification
specialist.
2006 has of course continued with the yearning of new knowledge. I took a trip to San Jose
to learn the art of cutting, another form of scarification. Instruction was given by Dave
Gillstrap, & Ron Garza. Both pioneers in the field of scalpeling.
Also in 2006 I flew to Pro-Gress piercing in Raleigh, North Carolina to study some
advanced techniques involving surface piercing as well as free hand techniques. By
implementing a free hand style of piercing it allows us to pierce with fewer or no tools. Talk
with me about the many advantages gained with this!
We are now in the year 2007. I have found home in Portland Oregon and have decided to
open Sterling Modifications The Studio. I have been open since early April and appointments
are now being taken.
I have just returned from San Jose yet again for more advanced study. This time the
advanced genitalia segment was overseen by Monte in Nebraska and Jessika in Minneapolis,
Mn. The second segment regarding Single Point Piercing was brought to us by again Monte
and Didier Suarez of Enigma in San Diego.
I have found an industry that provides me the opportunity to share the passion that has
allowed myself a means of expression & distinction. My interest & continuing education is
something that will never end nor will my availability in helping others achieve the
uniqueness they seek.
